Many of us listen to music everyday, but we listen to one in particular, our favorite song by our favorite artist that we feel introduces us and defines us. For me the artist defines me is Lana Del Rey. If we didn’t have language and the only way of communicating to people were to show who you are through music, Lana Del Rey would be the artist I would show people. In all honesty, its hard choosing my favorite song because I love all the albums, but my top songs would be, Ride. Other songs that are second and third to the top song would be This Is What Makes Us Girls, God Knows I Tried.
In Ride, the song speaks about Lana and her life when she was younger, she felt like the open road was her home, where she felt comfortable. In the song she says “Live fast” she is trying to tell us to live in the moment and have fun and to enjoy life as it is. She symbolizes the song “Ride” as a way to live life and if you’re going through tough times, to enjoy every factor of it. In the beginning of the song the intro talks about her life before the fame what her thoughts were about her life back and how she wanted/ wants to live. I feel that it connects to me a lot, where I find myself on the road in life. It makes me think of what I think life is about, and relates to me on a deeper level. The chorus makes me ” Just ride ” makes me think of life as in a ride, from the highs and the lows just like a roller coaster. In the next song, This Is What Makes Us Girls, reminds me of my teenage years and what the twisted fantasy it was for being a 16 year old girl. I think that many girls would relate to this song, I think it was made for girls because sometimes girls think that they’ve fallen in love at a young age but forget that there’s a life to live and its unpredictable. It also reminds me of all the wild things you’ve done during high school, it takes me to a point in my life where I was 16 and reckless. God Knows I Tried, relates to me personally in a way that in life, we are given whatever it throws at us but at the end we are strong and we will see the light at the end of the tunnel.
What are your perspectives on the three songs above? How did the songs make you feel? What song or songs define who you are and how does it relate to you?
